A Northern Rivers business owner could soon open a brand new beauty parlour, all within confines of her own home.

The home-based business development application was lodged before Lismore City Council by applicant Kate Martin.

The application proposes to turn Ms Martin’s Goonellabah residence into an at-home eyebrow microblading tattoo parlour.

The practice, which was growing in popularity, involves using a small needled tool to add semi permanent pigment to the brow area.

According to the application, the property was separately tenanted with a three-bedroom house upstairs and a one-bedroom unit below which was currently divided into a music room, spare bedroom and the an area Ms Martin intends to set up as her treatment room.

She said the only amendments to the area would be a hand wash on the wall as well as a sharps disposal box if the application was approved.

According to the application, there were to be safety measures placed to convert the space as well.

“Most goods that will be used will be single use, disposable at the end of each treatment including blades where I will have a sharps disposal bin mounted up high on the wall,” it read.

“The space in question has a flat surface (no slope), not prone to flooding or bush fires and is a more recently renovated part of the house that was done when the previous owners decided to make the house separately tenanted.

“It is easy to keep clean and sanitised with three different water sources, one which will be specifically for hand washing.”

It was estimated the premise would operate with a maximum of two clients per day, and there would be an hour gap between clients, she proposed.

“The hours of operation will be Monday to Friday 9am – 3pm, but I may only work about three of these days as I already have a casual job where my shifts change each week,” the application read.

Ms Martin would be the only staff member hired.
