Peak hour traffic was interrupted on the Bruxner Highway southbound from Lismore on Thursday after reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

About 4.40pm emergency services were called to the Bruxner Highway at Irvington, east of Casino, after reports a truck travelling west and two utilities both travelling east have collided.

A 34-year-old male driver of one of the utes was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Two other drivers have been assessed for minor injuries and taken to Casino Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Richmond Police District have established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The Bruxner Highway remains closed in both directions, with local diversions in place.

Light vehicles are being directed via Casino-Coraki Road, Dawson Street and Coraki Road.

Heavy vehicles are being diverted via Woodburn using Casino-Coraki Road, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Woodburn-Coraki Road, Tuckombil Road and the Pacific Highway.

Allow plenty of extra travel time.
