Motorists well-behaved over Easter

A WOMAN caught driving 46km/h over the speed limit was also found to have a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit, police said.

A WOMAN caught driving 46km/h over the speed limit was also found to have a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit, police said.

The Lennox Head woman, 31, was heading west along Tintenbar Road at Teven at 2.40pm on Monday.

She was pulled over after police detected her driving at 126km/h in an 80km/h zone.

A breath test revealed her blood-alcohol concentration was 0.23.

Police cancelled her licence on the spot.

She will face high-range drink-driving charges in Ballina Local Court on April 22.

Richmond Local Area Command crime manager, Detective Inspector Greg Moore, said the incident was an exception to the ‘fairly good’ Easter long weekend.

“Over the four days we conducted more than 2000 random breath tests,” he said.

“Nine people were charged with drink-driving offences. That is a pretty good result.”

Byron Youth Service’s Nicqui Yazdi, who ran breathalyser stalls at Bluesfest, agreed.

“We had thousands and thousands of people stop to check themselves before they drove home,” she said.

“It made people aware of their limit and everyone was really sensible about it.”
