A man suffering serious leg injuries needed to be winched by helicopter after a crash north of Nimbin yesterday.

Just before 11:30am on Saturday, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by Ambulance NSW after reports of a motorcycle accident at Lillian Rock, north of Nimbin.

The reports indicated a male motorcyclist had collided with a sign, then fell three metres down an embankment.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter located the accident scene prior to the arrival of local ambulance paramedics and emergency services.

The helicopter was unable to land in the near vicinity of the scene so elected to winch insert the Critical Care Medical Team into the scene.

A 52-year-old male was treated and stabilised on scene by the medical team prior to being carried from the local by emergency personnel, then road transported to the Lismore Base Hospital by ambulance suffering serious leg injuries.
