Man, 26, being treated at Lismore Base Hospital after brutal attempted robbery on Crawford Square

A man has suffered an array of serious injuries after an assailant tried to rob him while he slept in his car in the Northern Rivers this morning. Here’s what we know.

A man has suffered an array of serious injuries after an assailant tried to rob him of his phone and a motorbike while he slept in his car in the Northern Rivers this morning.

The 26-year-old victim was sleeping in a parked vehicle at Crawford Square public park at Casino about 3.30am on Friday.

He was woken “by an unknown man” about 3.30am on Friday, according to NSW Police.

The robber “demanded his mobile phone and a motorbike, which was attached to the vehicle”.

Police state a “struggle ensued and the man who was in the vehicle sustained wounds to his arm, chest and back”.

The assailant fled empty-handed. Police have not revealed if he was armed at the time.

A member of the public drove the injured man to Casino Hospital, where he has been undergoing treatment. It’s expected he will survive, police state.

He was then taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition, according to NSW Ambulance.

Officers were notified by the hospital and launched inquiries into the attack.

Richmond Police District set up a crime scene, which was being forensically examined.
