A major refurbishment is on the cards for a Lismore car dealership, which will transform the business into a modern facility.

The James Frizelle Automotive Group has lodged a development application for work at Northern Rivers Isuzu, on the corner of Cook and Union Streets at South Lismore.

The work is estimated to cost more than $730,000.

If the DA is approved by Lismore City Council, the work would include the construction of an extension to the existing showroom and the construction of a new workshop.

Extra on-site parking and paved areas will also be built.

The plans are on public exhibition until June 22.

According to town planners Newton Denny Chapelle, the proponent is seeking to construct a “modern” new building.

“The external building materials include a mix of concrete and Colorbond steel as well as decorative cladding elements and a steel column feature on the east elevation,” their report to the council states.

“The building will contain three bays for vehicle maintenance as well as a vehicle store area.

“The proposed new workshop will connect to the existing workshop by way of a covered walkway.

“The application includes a proposal to expand the existing building in the northeast corner to provide additional floor space for the vehicle showroom. The increase in floorspace will be approximately 38m2.

“External materials will be predominantly glass with an awning over and a decorative column in the north east corner.”

Northern Rivers Isuzu currently operates with four work bays, nine employees and has 1600 sqm of indoor and outdoor display space.
