Lovepreet Singh: East Ballina man charged with fatal Uralba crash

Named: An East Ballina man who has been charged over a fatal Uralba crash which killed a 60-year-old North Coast man has been mentioned in court.

An East Ballina man charged over a fatal highway crash earlier this year has had his matters heard before court.

Lovepreet Singh, 27, was mentioned before Ballina Local Court on Thursday facing charges of dangerous driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.

Police will allege Mr Singh was involved in a two-vehicle crash between a van and a utility on the Bruxner Highway at Uralba, about 10km west of Ballina on January 8,2022.

The ute’s driver, Lindendale man Peter Johnston, 60, tragically died at the scene.

Mr Singh was also trapped and had to be treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being released and flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 26-year-old male passenger was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital with minor injuries.

Mr Singh was not required to be present before court on Thursday as his solicitor asked for an adjournment.

Magistrate Karen Stafford adjourned the matter until September 8 for a brief service mention.
