Liz Deep-Jones named Lismore's 2016 Australia Day Ambassador

FORMER sports presenter Liz Deep-Jones has been named Lismore’s 2016 Australia Day Ambassador.

FORMER sports presenter Liz Deep-Jones has been named Lismore's 2016 Australia Day Ambassador.

Ms Deep-Jones has a long list of credits to her name including television journalist and presenter, author, producer, broadcaster and public speaker.

Recently she turned her talents to producing television and online programs for SBS TV, including A Living Black Special for the NITV free-to-air launch where she secured a video message from the UN's Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon.

Ms Deep-Jones has also met and secured many other high-profile interviews with prominent personalities including Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Geoffrey Robertson QC, Prince Albert of Monaco, Serena Williams and many others. She has also enjoyed success as author of the Lucy Zeezou teen novels.

"It's an honour to be an Australia Day Ambassador and I look forward to sharing my story with the community as a proud Australian," she said.

Mayor Jenny Dowell said she was delighted Liz had been named Lismore's 2016 Ambassador and encouraged people to attend the Australia Day Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 26 January at Lismore City Hall from 8.30am.

"We are very privileged to have Liz coming to Lismore - she no doubt has a wealth of life experience and some excellent tales to tell," Cr Dowell said.

"Australia Day Awards are a special recognition for outstanding members of our community, and everyone is invited to attend the event and help honour the many wonderful people in our community doing extraordinary things."

Nominations for the 2016 Australia Day Awards are open until December 23.

Categories in 2016 are: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Aboriginal Citizen of the Year, Services in Community (Individual), Services in Community (Group), Sportsperson (Senior), Sportsperson (Junior), Sports (Team/Group/Organisation), Sustainable Environment and Art/Cultural.
