LISMORE INSTITUTION: A bully may try to wrest control of the business name of Lismore’s town’s beloved Lantern Parade but LightnUp Inc chief executive and creative director Jyllie Jackson is serenely preparing for the 26th parade on June 19, 2021.

The Lismore Lantern Parade will go ahead as planned despite an attempt to stop it.

Someone has registered the business name of the beloved Lismore institution without having any involvement in its organisation.

But the main driving force behind the past 25 annual Lismore Lantern Parades and LightnUp Inc chief executive and creative director Jyllie Jackson, said the revised event will proceed and be a huge success.

Currently in the throes of organising the 26th Lismore Lantern Parade, Ms Jackson said she could not understand why anyone would try to take the name.

“It’s a very unpleasant thing to do and it does not mean anything,” she said.

Ms Jackson said the person had issued a message on social media stating that he now owned the name and that she should stop the event scheduled for the weekend of June 19.

“I only saw this message as I’m not on social media, but friends saw it and passed it on,” she said.

“We are not trading illegally, we are a non-profit with all correct registrations including DAs in place and have an independent audit annually,” she said.

Ms Jackson said she had also put in place a mechanism for the Lismore Lantern Parade to be accessed through the NSW Government Dine and Discover vouchers and hoped to soon be announcing the event’s listing.

“I am working 18 hours a day,” she said.

“We are small and dedicated group of people and events like the Lismore Lantern Parade are crucial to bringing the community together.”
