One lucky person will win a stunning amythest crystal when they attend the 30th Lismore Gemfest this weekend.
Lismore Gem & Lapidary Club committee member Marcus Bebb said the Lismore Gemfest ‒ which is now one of Australia’s largest annual gem and mineral shows ‒ was set to sparkle at the Lismore Showgrounds.
He said on Saturday and Sunday (May 15 and 16) nearly 150 dealers and stalls will be attending to show, sell and display minerals, gems, fossils, jewellery and equipment from all over the world.
Mr Bebb said there would be plenty to interest people of all ages, from the dedicated rock-hound, gem or jewellery collector or those interested in fossils.
“One lucky person will win our gate prize from Murwillumbah’s Geological George,” he said.
“He has donated a 29kg amethyst geode, a gorgeous crystal cave which is full of purple crystals.”
Mr Bebb said it was wonderful to see how the event had evolved from just a handful of traders.
And if you want to spoil your special someone, Mr Bebb said there was a $50,000 emerald on sale.
“It’s a gorgeous little piece of stone,” Mr Bebb said.
“When I say small, I mean its 5cm long and 2cm wide; it’s a decent little stone.”
And for those on a different budget, the Lismore Gem & Lapidary Club will also have a gem search for all the family.
“The club will have a gem search for sapphires on the hill, we will sprinkle them around,” he said.
“And our members will also be on hand with a stall of items and would love to chat to people who might be interested in learning more about this fascinating activity.”
Tickets are available at the gate: $5 adult, $1 children (under 12).
