Aside from the heartbreaking number of people in need of help, residents have been expressing concern about the beloved Hannah Cabinet, which is housed at Lismore Regional Gallery.
Footage coming out of the town shows the gallery well submerged in floodwater.
The $1 million carpentry masterpiece, created by Geoff Hannah, has been housed there for several years.
A Lismore City Council spokesman said the fate of the cabinet remained one of many unknowns.
He said while the height of the water that has inundated the CBD meant damage to the work seemed likely, a number of variables meant staff remained uncertain.
“We just haven't been in to have a look yet,” he said.
