A MOTION to arrange a fact-find trip by Lismore City Councillor Graham Meineke to CSG mining regions in Queensland was voted down last night six votes to five.

Cr Meineke said he had hoped the trip would enable councillors to find out first-hand the impact of CSG on the local economy and environment.

In opposing the motion, Cr Clough said he had 'already done his research' on CSG and said time and resources were better spent campaigning against CSG in the Lismore region.

Council's general manager Gary Murphy also identified that Cr Meineke's suggestion to use council's professional development fund for the trip as inappropriate, as it was reserved for seminars and workshops.
