LISMORE City Council has voted to raise its concerns over cuts to single-parent's welfare payments with local MPs Janelle Saffin and Justine Elliott.
In introducing the motion, Cr Battista noted that 21% of families in the Lismore LGA are single-parented, versus the national average of 16%.
The cuts are expected to save the Federal government $728 million over four years but will cost single parents up to $223 a fortnight.
Cr Battista said the cuts would have a major impact on the Lismore area. Cr Clough noted that single-parents were the 'life-blood' of the community.
Cr Ritchie noted that Ms Saffin had already spoken against the decision in Parliament.
