Lismore City Hall needs a new name

THE architectural design might not be the only change coming to Lismore City Hall, as mayor Jenny Dowell calls for suggestions for a new name for the building.

THE architectural design mightn't be the only change coming to Lismore City Hall, as Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell calls for suggestions for a possible new name for the historic building.

Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell put out a call on her Facebook account on Monday, writing: "Ok arts lovers, I need your brains and imagination. We are looking for a new name for City Hall. It is not where council meets; it is not where you pay rates. It is a performance venue, a function centre and more. Give me some ideas for names over the next 3 weeks. The Steering Committee will sift through the ideas to find some to put to Council."

However, she said, throwing suggestions into the hat doesn't mean that the name is definitely going to change.

"We're not guaranteeing we're going to change (the name), but the refurbishment is an opportunity for change," Cr Dowell said. "It's a very significant building to Lismore and you don't play with names easily, out of whim."

It's something that Council would want to ensure had the support of the community behind it, she said.
