LISMORE City Council is encouraging community groups and not-for-profit organisations to apply for a number of free computers now available as a result of routine IT upgrades.

This year there are 85 second-hand desktop PCs available the council has earmarked for the community and not-for-profit sector as a gesture of thanks.

"It's Council's way of acknowledging the not-for-profit sector and community organisations who focus their resources on the community, on meeting the human need that's out there, which doesn't always leave a lot left over for infrastructure," Council's Social Planner Christine Minkov said.

"These groups do much with so little and this is a small way in which Council can say thank you for the enormous contribution they make within the Lismore Local Government Area. Without them and the services they provide, our society would be the poorer. We owe them deep gratitude and thanks."

To apply for a second-hand computer, download an Expression of Interest form here or phone Council on 1300 878 387.

Expressions of interest close at 9am on Monday, December 3.
