Lismore City Council has responded to a rumour circulating on social media alleging a corruption investigation is taking place.
A post on a local community page has alleged the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Office of Local Government were jointly involved in investigating “serious evidence based allegations of corruption” in connection with council staff.
The post also claimed a “former NSW Police superintendent” had been given a role in the investigation.
No authorities have confirmed any such investigation is taking place.
“Lismore City Council has not been informed of any ICAC investigation, nor do we expect to be informed as this is not normal ICAC practice,” a spokesman for the council said.
“There is certainly no truth to the unsubstantiated Facebook rumours that a number of staff have resigned due to an ICAC investigation.”
A spokeswoman for the commission did not confirm any such investigation was under way.
“The commission cannot confirm or deny if it is undertaking investigations,” she said.
The Office of Local Government was approached for comment but is understood the body would not undertake investigations against the council.
