SMOKING will finally be excised from the CBD on January 7 next year after Lismore City Council voted to approve its smoke free policy.

SMOKING will be excised from the CBD on January 7 next year after Lismore City Council voted to approve its smoke free policy.

Lighting up will only be permitted at designated smoking 'posts' complete with signage and butt bins near the entrances to the CBD's four major car parks.

Smoking and walking will no longer be allowed, nor smoking outside any CBD pubs and clubs.

While two CBD cafes retain smoking privileges at their outdoor dining areas under current lease agreements, these too will go once the venues renew their leases in June next year.

The policy also bans smoking at parks, gardens, recreational areas and sporting grounds.
