Light dusting of snow with the promise of more to come has tourists in a frenzy
Snow tourists from Brisbane and Toowoomba are heading south across the Northern Rivers to see the white stuff as one town prepares for a cold night which they hope will produce more than a few flurries.

As snow tourists make their way across the Queensland border and through the Northern Rivers, one town is hoping their flurries turn into proper economic snowflakes.
According to Tenterfield Shire Council’s Acting Tourism & Marketing Manager, Emma Johnson, their visitor information centre has been inundated by tourists in person, online and on the phone.
And they wall want to know the same thing – where is the snow?
Situated 159km west of Lismore, Ms Johnson said Tenterfield had seen a light dusting on Mt MacKenzie but everyone is hopeful of for a repeat of the 2015 winter which saw good falls of snow in the area.
“We have had some very light flurries of snow yesterday (Wednesday June 9, 2021) at the top of Mt MacKenzie,” she said.
“So we have had lot of people phoning us and popping in to check if there’s any snow to see in Tenterfield.
“The Bureau of Meteorology think there is a still a chance we will some heavier snow, than these flurries..”
Ms Johnson said businesses in Tenterfield were open and ready to embrace any snowfall.
“Today most people are heading two hours (159km) south to Guyra as they had snow overnight,” she said.
“Snow is good for the town economically, and our town is lined with cafes and little pubs with their fireplaces going, the town has a really lovely alpine feel and if we do get a dusting of snow down here, it will make Tenterfield even more picturesque.”
