Minor flooding is still impacting the region and more rain is on the way.

Simes Bridge is close to going under floodwater.

UPDATE 3.40pm: The SES warns Simes Bridge is under water as Wilsons River continues to rise.

An earlier post said: "Simes bridge is very close to going under. Please avoid the area and take the long way around. Remember: if it's flooded, forget it".

The bridge is now under water.

SES Northern Rivers Divisional Command spokeswoman, manager Sue Brown, said currently there are minor flood warnings for the Wilson River,

Ms Brown said while Simes Bridge over the Wilson River was closed shortly before 3pm today, it appears the Lismore CBD will escape being flooded..

"The river is slowly rising but there would need to be a much greater amount of rain to flood the CBD," she said.

"The SES has not issued a pack and leave warning for Lismore at all." 

 

UPDATE 3pm: The Northern Rivers can expect some more wet weather for the rest of today and possibly the morning, but the sunshine is on its way.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the region was on the edge of a clearing trend, but tomorrow the region should see widespread clearing of the very wet weather experienced over the past few days.

A storm could bring heavy rain today or in the morning, but BOM meteorologist Jordan Notara said "tomorrow is likely to see clearer skies and breaks in the clouds". 

He said there will be a marked change in temperatures for the rest of the week, with temperatures edging towards 30C.

He said there was always a chance of a shower, but they would not be as heavy or as widespread as the past few days.

"You should see more normal weather patterns in the coming days," Mr Notara said.

BOM forecast sunny skies for the next four to five days, but Mr Notara said winds from the south or south east could bring more showers from Monday. He said the expected rainfall would not be as heavy or widespread as the recent rain event.

 

UPDATE 11.30ppom: An initial Minor Flood Warning has been issued for the Tweed River at Tumbulgum.

Heavy rainfall since Saturday morning over the Tweed River catchment has caused river rises, and minor flooding is occurring at Tweed River at Tumbulgum.

The Bureau of Meteorology said further heavy rainfall is forecast for the next 24 hours, and may lead to further river rises.

The Tweed River at Tumbulgum is likely to reach around 1.40m, with minor flooding Tuesday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

The river at Tumbulgum is currently at 1.41m.

Heavy rainfall since Saturday morning over the Wilsons River catchment has caused river rises, and minor flooding is occurring in the Wilsons River at Lismore.

Further rainfall is forecast during Tuesday. Renewed rises are possible.

The Wilsons River at Lismore (AHD) may reach around 5.20 metres Tuesday evening with minor flooding. Further rises are possible.

The Wilsons River is currently at 4.93m.

Original story: Minor flood warnings are still in place for the Wilsons River at Lismore, more rain is expected which could see the river exceed that level.

The Wilsons River at Lismore (AHD) is currently at 4.63 metres and rising with minor flooding. The Wilsons River at Lismore (AHD) may reach around 5.00 metres Tuesday afternoon with minor flooding. Further rises are possible.

Low lying areas in the city will be impacted by flooding, and low lying carparks will close.

People are advised to not walk or drive in floodwater.

Minor flooding is expected to develop in the Richmond River at Coraki and Bungawalbyn

from Tuesday around midday.

Further rainfall is expected for the remainder of Tuesday, which may lead to further river

rises.

The Richmond River at Coraki is expected to exceed the minor flood level (3.40m) around

midday Tuesday. The river level may reach around 4.00 metres Wednesday morning with

minor flooding. Further rises are possible.

The Richmond River at Bungawalbyn is expected to exceed the minor flood level (3.00m)

around midday Tuesday. The river level may reach around 3.60 metres Wednesday

morning with minor flooding. Further rises are possible.

What we are expecting:

Low lying farm land may be affected, farmers are advised to monitor the situation closely

and move equipment and livestock if required.

At Coraki:

• Possible local flooding in and around Bungawalbin Creek with rural inundation south-

west of Coraki

• Water may affect the Coraki Caravan Park

At Bungawalbyn:

• Minor flooding of low-lying roads and rural areas

What you need to do:

Residents and visitor to low lying coastal caravan parks need to monitor the situation closely

and prepare to relocate.
