King wins Australian title at Stradbroke Island

A PERFECT 10-point ride helped Byron Bay surfer Kyuss King win the Surf Dive 'n Ski Australian junior surfing title at the weekend.
King finished with an impressive 18.75 (out of a possible 20) in the four-man final of the Under-16 division at Stradbroke Island.
His next closest rival was Lennox Head surfer Mikey McDonagh who scored 12.50.
The win follows on from when King took out the NRMA Junior state title at Middle Rock Beach, near Port Stephens in July.
King and McDonagh will now represent Australia at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Portugal next year.
In addition to the prestigious title of Australian Champion, King received a wildcard entry into the seven upcoming Subway Pro Junior events sanctioned by the World Surf League
Six states were represented at the titles across Under-14, 16 and 18 age groups in both boys and girls divisions.
The event is considered the benchmark of junior surfing in the country.
The Australian School Surfing Association Titles run as part of the program.
Past winners of the even include world champions Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Steph Gilmore.
Southern Cross K-12 school in Ballina was well represented with a handful of students competing.
Mikey and Josh VanNeikerk won the Under-16 Boys MR school surfing division.
Sophie Fulton also won an Australian title in the Under-16 girls.
Fulton and McDonagh were named in the Australian merit team with NSW winning the competition on overall points.
In other results, Jack Murray made the semi-finals of the Under-19 boys division.
Lennox Head surfers Luke Condon, Zac Condon, Zac Wightman also competed at the Australian titles.
