LISMORE City Council is about to start the next stage of the Imagine Lismore project - six 'place-based' forums in various locations around the Local Government Area.

As with the Citizens' Jury conducted in July participants are randomly selected from each location so Council gets a real-life slice of community opinion.

Participants will be presented with the visions and values conceived by the Citizens' Jury and asked to work out how these can be implemented in their local area.

"We have the broad vision and values for the whole LGA from the Citizens' Jury. We want to build on the great work the Jury did by finding out what this will mean from a local perspective," said Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell.

"The information we get will be used to plan for the kind of services, infrastructure and type of growth (if any) that will be needed in each part of the LGA.

"The most exciting thing about Imagine Lismore is that it will bring all the key service providers together… this is a whole-of-community plan that encourages a truly coordinated response to the needs of the community.

"If we can bring not just the resources of Council to bear on these needs but also the resources of the other service providers in Lismore we can really make a huge difference."

In conjunction with the 10-year Imagine Lismore Community Strategic Plan, Council is also formulating a Growth Management Strategy (GMS) for Lismore. The GMS will be the key strategic document that guides the future growth of the Lismore LGA for the next 25 years, ensuring development is carefully planned in areas where services and infrastructure can be provided.

Place-based forums will begin mid-October and run until the first week in December at the following locations: Dunoon, Clunes, Nimbin, Wyrallah, Goonellabah and Lismore.
