Several warrants have been issued for a Tweed Shire woman whose offending was proven after she stole a four-wheel-drive from a Northern Rivers mother’s driveway, leading to a dramatic police pursuit.
Nova Tellegen-Dreyer, 26, failed to appear before Magistrate Kathy Crittenden at Mullumbimby Local Court on Wednesday.
The court found offences including taking a car without consent, and dangerous driving during a police pursuit proven.
Other offences found proven were using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and property theft. Tellegen-Dreyer had not entered pleas for any offences.
The incident occurred on June 27 when Tellegen-Dreyer approached the mum at her Left Bank Rd home while she prepared to put her child in a dark grey Ford SUV.
Police allege Tellegen-Dreyer jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off, despite the mother’s attempts to stop her.
The victim was reportedly forced onto the bonnet, clinging on before rolling off the moving 4WD.
Police initiated two separate pursuits of the 4WD after it failed to stop.
The first pursuit was terminated because of safety concerns near Myocum.
A second pursuit later that night in Clunes was also called off because of public safety risks.
Police said Tellegen-Dreyer crashed into a fence and collided with a police car on Bangalow Rd, before running away.
She was subsequently arrested nearby.
A roadside breath test returned a negative result.
