A hotel which was dragged to its present site by a bullock team and is known as one of the great cattleman’s pubs of the Northern Rivers is on the market for the first time in about 45 years.
Casino’s popular watering hole The Hotel Cecil is for sale and if your pockets are deep enough, you can buy the whole lot – the building and the business.
The heritage-listed site has hosted numerous Beef Week and Primex catch-ups as well as parties, weddings, school reunions and in 2017 was even in the national spotlight during a hostage situation.
Owners syndicate spokesman Michael Bulmer said the hotel said the business generated a weekly revenue of about $123,000, but declined to be drawn on the price.
“The syndicate decided it was to time to sell the business and allow this heritage hotel to move onto the next owner,” Mr Bulmer, 69, said.
“There’s also the potential for the current management team to stay on, we employ 35 people.”
Mr Bulmer said quality regional hotels were commanding interest from capital city buyers because the stock in Sydney was very tightly held.
“When you see hotels selling like the Great Northern, the Lennox Pub and at Evans Head selling, well, they will be off the market for a while now,” he said.
“The regions are going very strong, I think people from the city think there’s less likelihood of be caught in lockdown.”
Situated on one of Casino’s prime corner highway locations, the Hotel Cecil has undergone a recent refurbishment.
It’s features include a large covered drive-through bottle shop, 13 gaming machines, a TAB and cafe area.
According to selling agents Leonard Bongiovanni of Manenti Quinlan & Associates in conjunction with John Hannigan of John Hannigan Real Estate, the property could draw a new line in the sand when it comes to selling commercial property in town.
Mr Bongiovanni said the sale of the 2672sq m property was generating interest far beyond the Northern Rivers.
“I think yes, the sale of the Hotel Cecil could definitely set a new record,” Mr Bongiovanni said.
“This sale involves the whole kit and kaboodle, you are buying the business and the building.
“I anticipate we will definitely get interest from outside the area as there is a lot of interest in the Northern Rivers region at the moment.”
The hotel is being marketed through an expression of interest campaign that will close on October 7, unless sold prior.
