A GOONELLABAH school girl has saved the lives of two puppies she found in a drain.

The Goonellabah Public School student was on her way to school when she spotted the husky-cross pups two weeks ago.

She took them to school with her and the dogs were then taken to Lismore City Council.

"We suspect they are a husky-cross of some sort but (we're) not sure,” a council spokeswoman said.

"And they appear to be about 12 weeks old but, again, we are guessing.”

Photos of the puppies have been posted on the council's website and Lismore Lost and Found Pets' Facebook page in the hope of finding their owner or new homes for them.
