Gallery takes art to Lismore's laneways

SATURDAY in the laneways of Lismore was a day of live painting and street art, all part of Lismore City Council’s Arts in August initiative.

SATURDAY in the laneways of Lismore was a day of live painting, street art and a celebration of local creativity, all part of Lismore City Council's Arts in August initiative.

In Larkin Lane, 10 street artists made their mark on the city's bourgeoning street culture at the Back Alley Gallery event.

The community event, Street Level, included the work from some new and some returning artists to revamp a stark white wall in Larkin Lane.

Since it started Back Alley Gallery has become a landmark community asset.

It is all about using a space which has not been utilised and showing the community these lanes are not just for cars, trucks and deliveries.

The street artists had allies in the creative group ArtWOMB providing an open creative space in the laneways for spontaneous creative expression during the day.

For the first time the street culture spilled over into gallery walls with the official Street Level Exhibition opening at Lismore Art Space.

Street Level showcases the diverse creative talent in Lismore.

The artists have donated the works on show, with all proceeds from the sales supporting the formation of Back Alley Gallery as an artist-run initiative and the next stage of the gallery.
