Update Monday, 1.30pm: NSW Police has launched an investigation in the causes of a house fire in Goonellabah last week.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.

“An investigation has been launched, anyone with information is urged to come forward,” they said.

Original story: Firefighters from Lismore and Goonellabah worked for an hour to contain a house fire in Goonellabah.

James Connors, station commander at Lismore Fire Station, said his team was alerted of the fire at 10.15am on Friday.

The fire, which occurred at Frith Place, Goonellabah, started at the entrance of the freestanding brick house.

“There was a fire on the landing of the house, at the front door, where there were some stored goods,” he said.

“The fire spread through the window and into the adjoining room, which was the kitchen, where there were more goods and clothes, which also caught alight.

“The fire caused fairly extensive damage to the area, but all occupants were able to exist the house safely prior to our arrival.”

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Police and ambulance were also called to the emergency.

Mr Connors said Station Officer Dave Mooney was one of the incident controllers, which also was attended by the Hazmat Goonellabah team.

“By the time the fire was under control, the home was rendered unusable, mainly due to smoke and water damage,” he said.

The commander highlighted the need for people to call triple-0 in case of a fire or any other emergency.

“In this case, the Goonellabah Fire Station was alerted directly, and it was fortunate that there was someone at the station at the time,” he said.

“If you call triple-0 you will always get somebody and we will be able to respond.”
