Firefighters battle thick smoke, roaring flames during granny flat fire
From their fire trucks, Fire and Rescue New South Wales crews could see thick smoke belching and flames roaring out of a property in Adele St, Alstonville, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Fast work by firefighters early on Saturday morning. prevented flames from spreading to nearby properties after a fire ripped through a granny flat in Alstonville.
According to Fire and Rescue New South Wales, around 4:28am on May 29, 2021, multiple FRNSW crews responded to reports of a granny flat alight on Adele St, Alstonville.
Firefighters reported that on route, they could see large amounts of smoke and flames and upon arrival the granny flat was found to be well alight.
Firefighters got to work to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to the main house.
According to firefighters, the property was unoccupied at the time, however three residents of the adjoining house had safely self-evacuated.
No persons were injured and investigations are ongoing.
Firefighters said this was a timely reminder that you can take steps to protect your home during winter:
– Never ever leave cooking unattended.
– Test that your smoke alarm/s are working. If not, change the batteries or replace the alarm.
– Keep everything one metre away from your heater
– Do not overload your power boards with appliances like heaters and electric blankets.
– Strong fire screens should be set-up in front of open fires
– Turn off your electric blanket at night.
– Do not use outdoor heating and cooking equipment inside your home. The use of this type of equipment indoors could lead to the build-up of carbon monoxide which could be fatal.
