Falls Festival 2021 will not go ahead at Byron Bay on New Year’s Eve

Falls Festival fans won’t like the team’s latest announcement so we have compiled a gallery with some wild images from the past five years to help soften the blow. Check out the pics.

Storm at Falls means fun

Falls Festival will not be held in Byron Bay this year.

Festival organisers confirmed the event would also not be held again in the regular locations of Lorne in Victoria and Marion Bay in Tasmania.

The next version of the festival will be held in Byron Bay, Murroon in Victoria and Fremantle Oval in Western Australia in December 2022.

Falls Festival was first held in Lorne, Victoria, 27 years ago.

The Tasmanian leg of the event was held for 17 years.

Byron mayor Michael Lyon was disappointed to see another major event cancelled in the area.

“It’s very sad,” he said.

“The announcement that we are going to miss out on a wonderful festival means less opportunity for local businesses to benefit and recover.

“More than anything, our artists and musicians miss out again and suffer another blow because of this unprecedented pandemic situation.”

The cancellation will also affect the council’s finances.

In 2018, North Byron Parklands, the venue that hosts Splendour in the Grass and Falls Byron Bay, entered into an planning agreement for a voluntary contribution scheme where the venue pay a monetary contribution of up to $120,000 a year to Byron Shire Council.

The agreement was reached after North Byron Parklands managers received approval from the NSW Government to host events indefinitely.

Falls Festival Byron Bay is usually held between December 31 and January 2, although dates for next year have not yet been confirmed.

About 20,000 punters attended the three-day event in 2019.

It normally attracts a mix of Northern Rivers, southeast Queensland and NSW music lovers.

The New Year event normally means people dress up and gear up for a wild festival of music, art and fun.

Here are some of the wildest images of punters having a great time in the past five festivals.
