A developer wants to build a new $8.6 million flood-resilient housing development including 22 units in East Lismore.

The Airforce Rd complex would compromise a mix of four and three-bedroom units on a site away from the worst of the regional city’s flooding.

Town planner Michael Vine states in documents with Lismore City Council that the homes would be “well removed from significant parts of (Lismore) that are impacted by flooding”.

Documents show 14 of the units would be two-storey, and eight would be single.

The 16,194 square metre site adjoins East Lismore Cemetery and is close to Southern Cross University.

The weatherboard units would front Airforce Rd and include “highly-articulated” facades.

“The (units) will be finished in a range of light and more natural tones to provide an attractive residential setting that is integrated into the landscape,” the developer states.

The site is currently vacant grassland and the works would include earth works and landscaping.

However, the developer notes the project would see the retention of existing mature trees and koala habitat.

Koala habitat corridors were identified along the southern and eastern part of the site and these areas will be “maintained and protected” with fencing and domestic pet ownership restricted to allow for the koalas to continue to use their habitat safely.

The development would also include “supplementary planting” in the koala habitat identified in the southern and eastern part of the site.
