Drivers urged to take note of road closures as Byron Bay Triathlon set to hit busy town
Up to 1,500 people will take part in the Byron Bay Triathlon this weekend, so you can expect to see traffic delays you’re out on the road.

If you’re planning on taking your mum out for breakfast in Byron Bay on Sunday, you might want to plan ahead as traffic is expected to be impacted due to the 26th annual Byron Bay Triathlon.
Up to 1,500 people will take part in the from 6.20am to 10.30am on Sunday, May 9.
From 6am to 10am, Broken Head Rd will be closed from Beech Dr, Suffolk Park to Bangalow Rd and this closure will continue along Bangalow Rd to Browning St, Byron Bay.
Local roads around Byron Bay will also be closed between 4am and 12pm midday including sections of Bay St, Middleton St, Marvell St, Tennyson St, Lawson St, Bangalow Rd and Broken Head Rd.
Traffic is expected to be heavy along Ewingsdale Rd from the M1 Pacific Motorway and on Bangalow Rd as motorists travel to the event and Byron Bay township while local roads are closed.
Detours will be in place throughout the morning.
A vehicle crossover point will be managed at Ruskin St, Browning St and Kingsley St.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, follow the directions of traffic controllers and be aware of increased pedestrian and cyclist activity.

- Bay St closed between the Surf Club and Fletcher St south (north and southbound) from 4am to midday
- Middleton St closed between Bay St and Lawson St (north and southbound) from 4am to midday
- Middleton St closed between Lawson St and Marvel St (north and southbound) from 4am to 10.30am
- Lawson St closed between Fletcher St and Massinger St (north and southbound) from 4am to midday
- Marvell St closed between Middleton St and Tennyson St (north and southbound) from 5am to 10.30am
- Tennyson St closed between Marvell St and Browning St (north and southbound) from 5am to 10.30am
- Bangalow Road closed between Browning St to Old Bangalow Road (north and southbound) from 6am to 10am
- Broken Head Rd closed between Old Bangalow Rd to BP Fuel Station Beech Drive (north and southbound to Suffolk BP) from 6am to 10am
The Byron Bay Triathlon is on Sunday May 9.
