A critical incident investigation is underway after a boy was seriously injured during an alleged police pursuit in the Northern Rivers. Here’s what we know.

A critical incident investigation is underway after a boy was seriously injured during an alleged police pursuit in the Northern Rivers.
Between 1am and 3.30am on Saturday, January 25, police allege a unit on Barker St, Casino was broken into and a white Honda hatchback was stolen from the premises.
Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it about 4.10am in Casino yet when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
Soon after, the hatchback crashed into a house on nearby West St. It smashed into a motorhome in the front yard before rolling and landing on its side.
The crash caused road closures for several hours.
Casino VRA assisted emergency services at the scene where a 16-year-old male driver was treated by NSW Fire and Rescue and paramedics before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A 13-year-old male passenger was treated for multiple injuries, stabilised by the Westpac critical care team then flown to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
Richmond Police established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident, with the aid of the Crash Investigation Unit.
Police charged the minor who remains before the courts.
The critical incident investigation was launched as a result of the seriousness of the 13-year-old boy’s injuries, police say.
Officers from Tweed/Byron will form a critical incident investigation team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged pursuit.
The investigation is also subject to an independent review.
