Councillors set to discuss general manager recruitment tonight

Lismore councillors have chosen their preferred candidate to fill the position of general manager, and will make an offer today.

Update Wednesday 10.40am: Lismore councillors have chosen who they would like to fill the position of general manager, but who that person is may not be revealed for a about a week.

Councillors voted at a closed extraordinary meeting last night to formally make the offer to the candidate today.

A council spokesman said an announcement of the successful candidate will be made once the offer has been officially accepted and the recruitment process has been completed. This was expected to take about one week.

Original story: It is understood Lismore City Council will decide on a new general manager at tonight’s extraordinary council meeting.

The discussions will take place behind closed doors due to the confidential nature of the information being discussed, and it may be some days before the news is revealed.

While a decision may be made tonight on who councillors prefer, the offer must be accepted and relevant paperwork completed, which means it may be at least a week before the new general manager is revealed to the public.

Michael Donnolly has acted as Lismore’s caretaker general manager since February when the contract of the then general manager Shelley Oldham was terminated suddenly.

Councillors initially declared Mr Donnelly would fill the position for twelve months, allowing councillors elected in the September Local Government elections to choose the new general manager.

However, councillors voted in March to commence recruitment of a new general manager immediately.
