Council to spend $123.2m

THE LISMORE City Council has revealed it will spend a massive $123.2m on projects including roads and a recycling facility in the 2012/2013 financial year.

THE LISMORE City Council has revealed it will spend a massive $123.2m on projects including roads and a recycling facility in the 2012/2013 financial year.

The draft 2012/13 Operational Plan, revealed yesterday, proposes boosting the council's roads budget to $18.2m while spending $5.4m on waste water infrastructure. If approved, it would put $3.8m towards a state-of-the-art recycling facility, and spend $4.8m on stage one of the Lismore City hall upgrade.

The draft plan is now on public exhibition and ratepayers have a month to provide feedback on the council's annual budget and strategic projects.

The council's finance manager Rino Santin said one of the most exciting elements of the draft 2012/13 Operational Plan was the new recycling centre - a materials recovery facility to be established at the Resource and Recovery Centre at East Lismore.

"This is a sensible budget and while the council has to be incredibly mindful of its financial constraints in the current economic climate, it still allows the council to progress some important projects that enhance the city's infrastructure, social capital and footing as the regional centre for both business and the arts," Mr Santin said.

The operational plan is on public display until Friday, June 15.

You can view the plan on the council's website at lismore.nsw .gov.au or at the council's corporate centre, 43 Oliver Ave, Goonellabah, and the council's CBD office, 55 Magellan St, Lismore.

It can also be viewed at all regular rural locations.
