LISMORE City Council moved unanimously to meet with NSW Heath over the parking stoush in the surrounding areas of Lismore Base Hospital.

The motion "that LCC seek an urgent meeting with NSW Health to address concerns expressed by the community on the impact of the Car Parking Strategy and explore opportunities to reduce/minimise this impact" was discussed at a council meeting last night.

Mayor Jenny Dowell posted on Facebook following the meeting that she saw the decision as a "good move".

New paid parking regulations came into effect.in July, to the displeasure of hospital staff.

The parking changes were originally designed to alleviate parking congestion for visitors and staff in what had historically been a difficult place to park.

The plan included the opening of a multi-storey car park and the introduction of parking fees in surrounding streets.

But it's been a big issue between staff and council, with staff boycotting the new paid parking areas to park further away from the hospital for free.
