THE newly-announced Our Sustainable Future ticket, running in the Lismore local government election, already has the attention of Lismore's Southies, Northies, and nature and culture lovers.

With only 56 days until the local council elections, it is looking like a condensed campaign period, with Our Sustainable Future the first ticket to fully launch to media.

The ticket is headed by Gasfield Free Campaigner Elly Bird and endorsed by current Lismore City Councillor Simon Clough.

The Our Sustainable Future ticket

  • Elly Bird, Lismore: Gasfield Free Northern Rivers campaigner, previously employed with Lismore Lantern Parade
  • Guy Stewart, Nimbin: Chair of Rainbow Power Company, active on numerous community committees in Nimbin
  • Simon Clough, Lismore: Current councillor.
  • Louise Somerville, Lismore: Long term council employee at the library, Knitting Nannas Against Gas
  • Annie Kia, The Channon: Lock the Gate community outreach coordinator, instigator of Gasfield Free Communities
  • Robyn Kelly, The Channon: Co-ordinator of The Channon Market

We asked Ms Bird about her goals and intentions on council:

"We hope to continue Simon's excellent work of the last 8 years, working to see the Lismore LGA grow and develop in a sustainable way, looking after our environment, our economy and our community," she said.

"I want to see Lismore City Council continue the good work that has been done in the last term, there are some exciting projects planned and I will work to ensure they go ahead.

"The development of the Cultural Precinct and Lismore Park are both exciting projects, as well as keeping Council on track to achieve its 100% renewable energy target. I will work to maintain the current level of balanced development that the current council has initiated, and to maintain and improve roads and infrastructure.

"I am also keen to see Council work with community and landholders to improve the condition and quality of the Wilsons River and to see more attention paid to the communities of North and South Lismore."

But are you splitting green votes?

"Our Sustainable Future broadens the sustainability vote, we are not aligned to any other political party, we are a Local Government party focused only on local issues. We are not trying to take votes from the Greens, we are looking to attract voters who have supported Simon Clough in the past and voters who have seen me in action during the campaign against CSG, and voters who have seen the great work being done by Guy Stewart and the rest of the team.
