Police seek to extradite QLD man over Lismore home invasion

POLICE have made an arrest following violent attack during home invasion.

UPDATE: Detectives will attempt to extradite a man from Queensland over his alleged role in a home invasion in Lismore last month.

Police will allege three men, armed with a sawn-off rifle and knives, forced entry into a unit on Airforce Road at Lismore about 11pm, Friday, June 22, and confronted five people inside.

The trio ransacked the room and threatened the occupants, demanding cash, wallets and mobile phones.

A 30-year-old male occupant was allegedly assaulted, being hit over the head with a beer bottle, while a 46-year-old man was allegedly shot in the leg.

Shortly after, the three men left the house and fled.

Emergency services were called and officers from Richmond Police District established a crime scene.

Paramedics attended, and both men were taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment.

Detectives from Richmond Police District commenced an investigation under Strike Force Mackenie.

Following inquiries, strike force investigators, with the assistance of the Queensland Police Force, arrested a 24-year-old man at a home in Redcliffe about 6.15pm yesterday (Friday July 12 2019).

He will appear at Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Monday July 15 2019, where detectives will apply for his extradition to NSW.

ORIGINAL June 22nd: POLICE are on the look out for three men who allegedly invaded a home with a sawn-off rifle and knives on Airforce Road in Lismore, on Friday night.

The resident of the home, a 30-year-old man was assaulted and his visitor, a 46-year-old man was shot in the ankle during the invasion.

"About 11pm, three men, armed with a sawn-off rifle and knives, forced entry to a unit on Airforce Road at Lismore, and confronted five people inside," Richmond Police District posted on their Facebook page.

"The trio ransacked the room and threatened the occupants, demanding cash, wallets and mobile phones.

"A 30-year-old male occupant was assaulted, hit over the head with a beer bottle. A 46-year-old man was shot in the leg.

"Shortly after, the three men left the house and fled.

"Emergency services were called and officers from Richmond Police District attended.

"Paramedics attended, and both men were taken to Lismore base Hospital for further treatment. They remain in a stable condition and their injuries are not considered life threatening.

"A crime scene has been established and detectives are investigating the incident, which is believed to be targeted.

"Investigators would like to speak to three men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

"The men are described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in their late teens to early twenties, wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered.

Chief Inspector Nicole Bruce said today Police will be canvassing the vicinity and speaking to two witnesses who were on the scene.

"And following up from items ceased from the property," Insp Bruce said.

Insp Bruce said witnesses have described either a beer bottle or a meat cleaver as being used to assault the 30-year-old man from Lismore.

"At the moment we are treating this as an isolated case."

Police believe the offence was targeted.

"When the offenders arrived they were looking for a person, who is believed to know the occupants."

"It's quite concerning that offenders of the ages described have been in possession of a fire arm, that is why we are appealing to public to get these people and the fire arms off the streets."

"They will be charged with a number of offences regarding possession and use of a firearm as well as home invasion."
