New roadworks starting in Goonellabah this weekend

MAJOR roadworks are planned to start over the next week, including a new roundabout at Goonellabah and replacement of a pipe culvert at Boatharbour.

A NEW roundabout will be installed on the corner of Pleasant and Fischer Sts at Goonellabah, with work due to start this weekend.

Lismore City Council has advised the road could be closed for at least one week.

These roadworks effectively mean people will not be able to drive to Goonellabah via Cynthia Wilson and Invercauld Rd. Motorists are urged to only use Ballina Rd.

From mid-January there will still be ongoing roadworks, but the road should be open, with some delays.

The council is also replacing a major culvert pipe under Boatharbour Rd about 3km east of Bangalow Rd.

The road could be closed for up to 14 days to complete the work.

Residents will need to use alternative routes during this time - Cameron/Cowlong Rd linking to the Bruxner Hwy to the south, or Eltham Rd linking to Bangalow Rd to the north.

Detours will be in place from Monday, January 11, unless there is heavy rain.

The council advised it was doing the work at this time because it was during the school holidays.

It is planned to re-open the road by late January, but there will still be roadworks and people can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

Works should be finished by mid-February.
