A MAN in the Toowoomba region has drawn praise online for offering to open his home to anyone needing a friend on Christmas.

Cecil Plains resident Alexander Jordan made the post on social media last week, saying he was available if anyone was lonely or wanted to spend a Christmas lunch with someone.

"I am offering my home to anyone who needs somewhere over Christmas. Free rent and a Christmas feed.

"Just give me a hand with my garden. Cheers and thank you. Must be LGBTIQ friendly."

Mr Jordan's post drew kind words, with many praising it for tapping into the Christmas spirit.

"That's so goddamn nice. Happy to assist to buy a few things for you," one person wrote.

"The world needs more people like you, God bless and have a Merry Christmas!" another added.

Mr Jordan said he was surprised by the comments and the kindness of strangers.

"It actually caused quite a few tears," he said.

"There are some wonderful human beings out there, and it's refreshing to know that people respond to that sort of kindness.

"It's really been wonderful. That response from people, that gave me a lot of hope."

Regional home puts on impressive Christmas light show

Ms Jordan said he made the gesture to remind people to not only think of themselves during the festive period.

But he understood how hard that could be, especially when many families were dealing with drought and bushfires.

"If someone's down on their luck, I'd like to help them," he said.

"The way I grew up on a farm was that you helped everyone.

"What's happening with the drought and the fires, people want to take care of themselves first, which is understandable.

"I think we all have moments like that."

Mr Jordan is still happy to accept someone for Christmas lunch, provided they liked dogs.
