Can just one boy win the battle against plastic?

THIRTEEN-year-old Arlain Ecker took his message of hope for a plastic pollution free future to A Current Affair this week.

PLASTIC Free Boy a.k.a. Arlian Ecker continued on with his mission to create a plastic free future when he appeared on Channel Nine's A Current Affair this week.  

"There's a lot of plastic in our ocean and it's killing sea turtles and lots of sea life," he told the audience.  

The thirteen year old is back home in Suffolk Park after being the youngest speaker at last month's 2019 Asia Pacific City Summit and Mayors Forum in Brisbane.  

Plastic Free Boy features in the film Plastic Alarm, produced by his mother Karin Ecker, that has been seen by more than 120,000 students in schools across the globe.

The film has received some high profile support from Chris Hemsworth who contacted Arlian last year saying:   

"I've watched your documentary Plastic Alarm for schools and wanted to say well done to both of you and particularly Arlian for having the courage and passion to stand up and fight for something so important," The Thor star said. "I'd encourage him to continue to have the strength to keep pushing forward."  

On stage at the Brisbane conference Arlian told attendees, "To do nothing will cost my future. It will cost your children's future and grandchildren's future."  

"In 2050, when I'm 42, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish," he said.  

Arlian spoke about how communities, especially school children like himself, can learn about and save the ocean's wild life from increasing plastic pollution.  

"I loved the experience at the summit," Arlian said.  

"I met mayors from all over the Asia Pacific who invited me to come and show my film at schools in Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.  

"I got approached by the Mayor from Vancouver Canada who invited me to speak at their next big conference about waste in October."  

Arlian is a Clean Up Australia Youth Ambassador and 2018 NSW Dept of Environment Green Globe Awards Nominee.  

"I hope to create a global movement with my Plastic Free Boy Films," Arlian said. "My next film is in the making."
