Bruxner Highway crash: pedestrian dies, police investigate

A 20-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on the Bruxner Highway. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

A man is dead after being struck by a car near Lismore.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the Bruxner Highway, near Richmond Hill Road at Goonellabah, shortly after 5am on Monday.

They received reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and despite their efforts, the 20-year-old man, died at the scene.

The male driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Richmond Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The Bruxner Highway is closed in both directions and diversions will remain in place for some time.

Motorists are advised to use Bangalow Road and the M1 Pacific Motorway via Bangalow to travel between Lismore and West Ballina.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash and police are urging anyone with information, or dashcam vision, to come forward.

A report will now be prepared for the information of the coroner.
