Clifford Park upgrade to be officially opened

LISMORE MP Thomas George and Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell will officially open the $1.6 million upgrade of Clifford Park on Thursday.

LISMORE MP Thomas George and Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell will officially open the $1.6 million upgrade of Clifford Park on Thursday.

The upgrade was funded through the NSW Government's ClubGRANTS scheme and includes a new sports amenities building with change rooms, kiosk, playground and carpark.

As well as providing the local community with a first-class facility where they can gather and enjoy healthy activities, the park is the Northern United Rugby League Football Club's home ground and will get plenty of use throughout the rugby league season.

Cr Dowell said the grand opening would include a free jumping castle, BBQ and face painting, with the whole community encouraged to come and take a look at the new park.

"It's now a really modern facility for the Goonellabah community and a great space for exercising, walking the dog or enjoying the outdoors with friends and family," she said.

"Northern United Rugby League Football Club can be incredibly proud of their home ground and enjoy excellent practise facilities. Northern United do fantastic work with young Aboriginal kids and the upgrade will enhance their ability to attract more young people to play rugby league."

Mr George said he was thrilled NSW Government funding has transformed the site from unfit into a first-class facility for the community to be proud of.

"Clifford Park will no doubt now be loved by local families and visitors for generations to come," Mr George said.

"The Goonellabah community deserve a modern sporting space and I encourage everyone to join us at the official opening to celebrate the redevelopment."
