The owners of one of Casino’s watering holes have lodged plans for a major renovation that would cost more than $1.4 million.
The development application for the revamp of the Charcoal Inn in Centre Street is currently on public exhibition with Richmond Valley Council.
If approved it would see changes to the pub’s internal configuration of the ground floor level of the building including:
• Demolition of some internal walls, an existing toilet and a veranda
• Construction of new storage, outdoor gaming area and toilets
• Enclosure of the existing beer garden area to create a new lounge area
• New entrance, kitchen and bar facilities
• Extensions to the bottle shop.
Work would also be done to make the building wheelchair accessible.
New timber floors and bi-fold doors would transform the public bar area, while the pub’s brick facade would be rendered.
According to documents lodged with the council by town planners Newton Denny Chapelle, the proposed alterations and additions to the pub would “encourage new economic activity within an existing pub”.
“It will provide for a more modern design, enhancing the built form and the visual impact upon the streetscape,” the report states.
The proposal is on public exhibition until August 9.
