A Richmond Valley man charged with the murder of mother-of-three Sarah Miles at Casino in June remains behind bars with his case unable to progress, a court has heard.
Dwayne John Creighton, 31, is alleged to have attacked his partner at her home on June 29, leaving her unconscious on the ground with head wounds that took her life.
Creighton’s matter was heard, albeit briefly, in Lismore Local Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Michael Dakin.
A return of subpoena was due, yet Creighton’s solicitor Isabel Attwooll told the court the case couldn’t progress as the brief was “non-compliant” and requested an adjournment to get it finalised.
Officers made the horrific discovery a few minutes drive from the local station more than an hour after a triple-0 caller reported hearing screams at the property, it has emerged.
Community outrage over emergency services and police response time initiated fiery debates about domestic violence and spearheaded an independent police review into the Casino murder.
Police said in a statement the critical incident investigation is ongoing and there are no further updates at this time.
Creighton did not apply for and was refused bail by Mr Dakin.
He remains in custody and was ordered to reappear via audio visual link before Lismore local court on September 25.
