Plans for a $2 million multipurpose community hub in Casino are on track, after the Casino Food Co-op donated two blocks of land for the project and local politicians secured the funding.
The centre will be built adjacent to the Jumbunna Community Preschool and Early Intervention Centre.
It will aim to provide increased support services for local families.
Page MP Kevin Hogan said the community hub will boost the Richmond Valley’s economic recovery and help create jobs in the community.
“This project includes the construction of a large multi-use room, smaller individual therapy rooms, a yarning circle, an administration area, as well as storage and staff areas,” he said.
“This project was identified by our community and will make a big difference locally, creating opportunities to increase employment and economic recovery.”
Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis said the new facility will provide much needed additional space for family-based support services such as parenting groups as well as NDIS support for children and young people up to 18 years.
“Jumbunna has been supporting local families for more than 40 years and has outgrown its current facility,” he said.
“The new hub will complement the existing community preschool and will be a culturally safe environment where families can access the support they need from visiting professionals such as Lismore paediatrician, Dr Chris Ingall, who has been providing regular clinics at Casino.”
The federal and state governments will provide a combined $1.52 million, with Jumbunna Community Preschool and Early Intervention Centre contributing $480,000 to purchase an additional two blocks of land.
