A Sydney man in Lismore Base Hospital with Covid-19 has been charged with seven offences over travelling to the Northern Rivers.

Update 4.40pm: A man has been charged for breaching the Public Health Order after leaving Sydney and visiting Byron Bay and surrounding areas.

Officers from Richmond and Tweed/Byron Police Districts commenced an investigation after receiving reports a man and family members had travelled to Northern NSW in late July.

Following extensive inquiries, police will allege in court a 52-year-old man from Rose Bay allegedly travelled from Sydney to Byron Bay. Police will also allege the man failed to check-in to several venues using either a QR-code through Service NSW or through a written register at premises in Byron Bay and Bangalow.

The man was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice in Lismore Base Hospital this afternoon for seven offences including:

• Not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19 (x3)

• Fail to comply with electronic registration directive (x4)

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on Monday September 13.

Original story: A man will be served a Future Court Attendance Notice today for breaching public health orders after he visited the Byron Bay and surrounding areas.

Following inquiries, including appeals for public assistance, the 52-year-old man from Rose Bay will be charged after he allegedly travelled from Sydney to Byron Bay and the surrounding area, without a reasonable excuse and in contravention of the public health orders.

The Future Court Attendance Notice will be served on the man at the Lismore Base Hospital with strict bail conditions.

He will appear at Lismore Local Court on Monday, September 13, 2021.
