School leavers from across NSW and Victoria have hit the town to meet up and enjoy some great live acts.
Middle Kids rocked the Railway Hotel on Saturday night, while the Beach Hotel had a six-act line-up that had the venue packed from midday with Karuah, Ino Pio, Mac, Skyeater, Golding and Boo Seeker on the bill.
Police were out monitoring the crowds well into the night on Saturday as the blistering hot day brought with it a storm that took a tree down in Marvell Street.
Victorian school leaver Tilly Mottram said she and her friends were just glad to be in Byron.
“Oh my God, it’s so good to be out of school now,” she said.
“We’re just going to relax and have a good time.”
Groups hung out on the beach and revellers lit up the night against a backdrop of lightening over the ocean.
A heavy storm ripped through town about 6pm.
State Emergency Service crew were called to Marvell Street to saw up a tree that succumbed to the strong winds.
