Better product displays, improved navigation and modern styling are all part of a million-dollar upgrade to one Northern Rivers supermarket.
ALDI Goonellabah is set to undergo a “comprehensive upgrade” in the coming weeks, following extensive store trials and ALDI’s statewide rollout of its modern store design in South and Western Australia.
The refurbishment is estimated to cost $1.39 million, according to an development application lodged with Lismore City Council.
The site on 15 Simeoni Dr, applied for the changes to council last week.
New features include redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays, as well as extended energy efficient chillers, energy efficient LED lighting and improved point-of-sale displays and store signage, according to an ALDI Australia spokeswoman.
“While we’re delighted to be introducing these innovations, we want our customers to know they won’t lead to higher prices,” she said.
“Low prices are a big deal for ALDI. In fact, we refuse to be beaten on price. This is our fundamental point of difference and one we will never give away.”
However, the revamp would come with some bad news to shoppers.
The Goonellabah store will close temporarily from 5pm Thursday, June 24 and reopen on Saturday July 17.
“We’re excited to be undertaking these upgrades and welcome the community to visit our new store from Saturday 17th July and share their feedback about the store experience,” the spokeswoman said.
In the meantime, shoppers can visit ALDI Lismore located at 44 Ballina Road, Lismore.
ALDI Goonellabah will continue to be supported by a team of 15-20 permanent full and part-time employees.
Opening hours will also remain the same.
