A 120-YEAR-OLD Newtown home with a myriad of sustainable features designed by Eco Blueprints' Ross Campbell will be featured as part of Sustainable House Day 2020.

But this year the day will be held differently, and people will be able to check out the eco-friendly features of more than 150 homes nationwide from the comfort of their own computer.

Established in 2001, Sustainable House Day is a national event co-ordinated by Renew, an organisation that provides independent advice on sustainable solutions for a range of sectors.

The day aims to inspire people to live sustainably, showing them how to lower energy bills, live comfortably and help the environment through good home design, practices and technology.

Mr Campbell said the Newtown home's solar panels exported three times as much electricity to the grid as what was used - and that was just one of its features.

Rainwater is also harvested and fed into tanks that are connected to the house and gardens, there's a vege garden, fruit and nut trees, shading of the home's east and west aspects, and more.

Mr Campbell also designed another home that will be featured on Sustainable House Day in Mount Lofty.

For the day, participating homes have created video tours and can be asked questions about their homes on the event's website.

Selected homeowners will also be taking part in information sessions happening throughout the day, accessible to anyone through Zoom.

For more information, to check out the homes, or to register, head to https://sustainablehouseday.com/program.
