A man has died after a motorcycle crash on Nimbin Road

A 66-year-old Gold Coast man has tragically died after a motorcycle crash outside of Lismore. Police are continuing to investigate the scene.

A Gold Coast motorcycle rider has died following a two-vehicle crash near Lismore.

About 12.30pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Nimbin Road at Koonorigan, about 18km north of Lismore, following reports a Yamaha motorcycle and Mitsubishi Triton had collided.

The 66-year-old man, from the Gold Coast, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to the Gold Coast Hospital where he later died according to NSW Police.

A male 43-year-old Lismore Mitsubishi driver was uninjured and taken to Lismore Base Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The crash occurred about 10km north of Goolmangar store.

Nearby residents who visited the Goolmangar store on Nimbin and Jiggi Rd said they heard police and ambulances race to the scene before a helicopter followed.

“It was very scary,” one woman said.

“It is so sad to hear that the man has died.”

Officers attached to Richmond Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will now be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

It comes as The Northern Star earlier reported the 66-year-old man had been treated on scene for confusion, abrasions to his chin and chest and leg injuries.
