MOST business owners looking to expand have three options to fund it, but the founders of 4 Brothers Brewing had a novel idea to help them realise their plans for the future.

About two and a half years ago they took the plunge and opened the brewery in Brook St, since recording strong growth as they push into more bars across the region and run events of their own.

Founder and managing director Adrian Cubit said they hoped the next step for the business would be to move closer to the CBD and expand to include a restaurant.

Faced with a possibility like this, most business owners would have to speak to the bank manager, find private investors or push the plan well into the future to save the funds long-term.

Not thrilled with any of these options, Mr Cubit said they put out the call to see if customers and community supporters would be interested in a crowdfunding campaign.

Supporters would pay anywhere from $100 up to get shares in the business and a few bonus extras, with the ultimate goal of raising $160,000.

They got an incredible response and thus the Brother From Another Mother campaign was launched at a special event on the weekend.

Supporters raised their glasses and Mr Cubit said they also raised quite a bit of money, with the tally breaking $11,500 after just three days.

"People are essentially buying shares in the business," Mr Cubit said.

"I think we can really provide value for any investor."
